Ear Pain Treatment
Causes of Ear Pain
Ear pain is one of the most common health issues. It can result from many different causes.
Ear pains are often more intense at night. When the air in the middle ear is absorbed by the surrounding tissues, negative pressure develops. This causes the eardrum to be pulled inward, leading to sharp pain.
If you experience ear pain, it is essential to consult a doctor, as it can have various underlying causes. Some of these include:
- An infection in the middle or outer ear,
- An infection in the nose, sinuses, throat, or mouth,
- Injury to the ear,
- Changes in air pressure (e.g., during air travel),
- Sudden temperature changes,
- Excessive buildup of earwax (cerumen),
- Foreign objects in the ear.
Otitis media (middle ear infection) is the most common cause of ear pain, particularly in children. It can develop due to a cold, sinusitis, or throat infection. Symptoms may include dizziness, fever, hearing loss, a sensation of fullness in the ear, and more.
