Cosmetic Jaw Surgery

Home/Cosmetic Jaw Surgery

Various deformities in the jaw can occur due to developmental issues or trauma. In some cases, dental problems may also accompany these disorders.

Deformities in the jaw can cause issues with biting and chewing, leading to both health problems and aesthetic concerns.

Orthognathic surgery corrects the jaw structure both functionally and aesthetically. This improves the patient’s chewing, eating, speaking, and breathing abilities, while also boosting self-confidence.

At Medient ENT Center, the surgery to advance the lower jaw is successfully performed.

HOW IS LOWER JAW SURGERY PERFORMED?

Lower jaw surgeries are carried out under general anesthesia. An incision is made inside the mouth, and a pocket is created for the silicone implant to be placed at the appropriate location.  The incision is then closed, and the procedure is completed. The surgery typically lasts about 1.5 hours. Since the incision is made inside the mouth, no external scars are visible. The patient can return home on the same day.

AFTER LOWER JAW SURGERY

It is recommended that the patient have someone accompany them for the first 24 hours following surgery.

For the first week after surgery, only soft, liquid foods should be consumed, and chewing movements should be avoided. Afterward, solid foods can be gradually introduced.

Normal activities can be resumed 4-5 days to one week after the surgery.

In case of pain, painkillers and muscle relaxants may be used.

Stitches can be removed 3-4 days after the surgery.

Swelling and edema are normal during the first 7-10 days. The use of a jaw-neck elastic bandage can help speed up recovery.

Teeth can be brushed, but soft brushes should be used during the first two weeks.

The jaw should be protected from trauma.
